Summer is a wonderful time for excursions in the Retzerland region. And because we are often asked what there is to do around Schrattenthal, we have compiled our four favorite spots – with a stop at our farm, of course.
Schrattenthal – the smallest town in Austria. Schrattenthal is Austria’s smallest town, with a castle and old town center.

Retz Adventure Cellars: Beneath the town of Retz lies Austria’s largest historical wine cellar labyrinth – kilometers of tunnels deep underground. A guided tour through the cool subterranean world is a welcome experience, especially on hot days. The historic town of Retz itself, with its beautiful main square, is also well worth a visit!

Thayatal National Park: On the border with the Czech Republic, around Hardegg, the Thaya River meanders through one of the most beautiful river valleys in the country. Hiking, nature, and with a bit of luck, a wildcat – ideal for a day outdoors.

Amethyst World Maissau: Here you’ll find Austria’s largest amethyst vein. At Amethyst World, you can delve into the secrets of the stone and even dig for amethysts yourself in the mining area – great fun for families.

And if you’re already in the area: come by for a glass. We’d be happy to take the time to show you our wines in the courtyard or in the tasting room – it’s best to call ahead so we can be there for you.
