Late spring is an intense time in the vineyard. The foliage work is currently underway: We are tying the shoots between wires to create a slender canopy of leaves and removing the lateral shoots in the grape area. All of this is done by hand and requires a great deal of dexterity and experience.
At the same time, the vine flowering has begun, one of the most important times in the entire wine year. Unlike the apricot blossom in the Wachau region, the grapevine blossom in the Retzerland region is inconspicuous, but smells wonderfully delicate. Now we are hoping for dry weather so that it can progress quickly – and we are already calculating: based on experience, the harvest begins around 105 days after flowering.
Because this time is so crucial, we are now intensifying plant protection and ensuring an airy canopy through precise leaf management, in order to provide the young shoots and flowers with the best possible conditions for growth and development.

Stop by for a glass of wine — or have summer delivered to your home.
Warm regards, the Zull family
